Georgian tennis star Nikoloz Basilashvili has mocked Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo after watching his country claim a 2-0 win over Portugal at Euro 2024. Georgia overcame Portugal to register their first major tournament victory and reach the knockouts for the first time.

Minnows Georgia lost 3-1 to Turkey in their first game before battling to a 1-1 draw with the Czech Republic in their second outing. Against a heavily rotated Portugal side that had already sealed qualification for the last 16 as group winners, the Crusaders performed excellently, shocking the sixth-ranked nation in the world.

Cristiano Ronaldo was the only outfield player to retain his place in the Portugal XI but failed to find the back of the net. The 39-year-old earned himself a yellow card in the first half as he protested a no-call from the referee following contact in the penalty box.

The Al-Nassr man cut a frustrated figure throughout the game as he struggled to find a way to help his team. He was taken off in the second half for Goncalo Ramos, and he reacted angrily as he took his place on the bench, kicking a water bottle.

Former ATP singles World No. 16 Basilashvili mocked the forward on Instagram, posting on his story that he wondered why Ronaldo cried after every chance.

Georgia next take on Spain on June 30 for a place in the Euro 2024 quarterfinals.

Cristiano Ronaldo makes unwanted personal history in Euro 2024

Porrugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo saw a long-standing personal streak come to an end at Euro 2024. The 39-year-old failed to score in the group stage of a major competition for the first time in 11 attempts.

Ronaldo had scored for Portugal in every group stage of a major competition throughout his career before Euro 2024. The Al-Nassr, though, saw that streak end in Germany, as he failed to score against the Czech Republic, Turkey and Georgia.

Ronaldo is set to feature for his country against Slovenia, where he will look to add to his 14 goals in the Euros, a competition record. He will also look to overtake Croatia's Luka Modric as the oldest goalscorer in the history of the competition and lead his country to glory.
