Former LA Galaxy star Sacha Kljestan has sent a warning to Inter Miami after injury to Lionel Messi.
Messi didn't play in the clash against Orlando City. Kljestan thinks Messi's absence is a big blow to the Herons and it can also hinder Luis Suarez's performance. He said on the MLS Wrap Up show (via GOAL):
"There's a lot of injuries and we saw the team just without Messi is a slightly different team. I think Suarez is still a fantastic player, but Suarez without Messi is also a less of a player."
In Lionel Messi's absence, Inter Miami managed a goalless draw against Orlando City. They defeated the same opponents 5-0 in March when the Argentine was available.
The Herons currently sit atop the Easter Conference of the MLS table. They have 28 points from 14 matches. Tata Martino's side return to action on Saturday (May 18) to play DC United at home.
Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez's numbers for Inter Miami this season
Lionel Messi has been in great form for Inter Miami this season. He is averaging almost two goal contributions per game. Messi has scored 12 goals and has provided 11 assists in 12 appearances this term.
In the 12 games Messi has played in, Inter Miami have won eight, drawn three, and have lost one. However, in Messi's absence, the Herons have played six games, winning one, drawing two, and losing three.
Luis Suarez, meanwhile, has also shown bright form since joining Inter Miami from Gremio in January. The Uruguayan striker has scored 13 goals and has provided seven assists in 17 appearances.
While Inter Miami also have players like Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba and more in their ranks, Messi's presence has proven to be pivotal. He also makes former Barcelona teammate Luis Suarez flourish more on the pitch.
