Scott McTominay delivered a heartfelt farewell message to Manchester United fans after departing the club

Scottish midfielder Scott McTominay sent a farewell message to Manchester United fans after departing the club to join Serie A giants Napoli. The 27-year-old expressed his gratitude for the love and support that he received from the supporters during his tenure at Old Trafford.

McTominay joined United at the age of 10 and worked his way up the youth levels into the senior team in 2017. He ended up being a solid squad player for the Red Devils, with 29 goals and eight assists in 255 appearances across all competitions.

His 22-year tenure at the club concluded on August 30, after his move to Napoli for a reported fee of £25.7 million was announced. In a parting interview on United's YouTube channel, McTominay showcased his appreciation for the club and the Red Devils faithful.

He said:

"I wanted to send them a message, just to send my love. I've absolutely loved every minute of being at this football club and I'm just so grateful and thankful for the players, the coaching staff, managers and all the fans as well."

When asked if he would keep up with United's progress even after his move to Italy, the 27-year-old immediately replied:

"For sure. Always. I want to see the club win, I want to see us do really, really well and I'll be watching as well. Thank you for having me and I've enjoyed every minute."

McTominay's spot in the squad will likely be taken up by Manchester United's reported £50.5 million signing Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

"I would have snapped your hand off" - Scott McTominay describes emotional journey at Manchester United before Napoli move

Midfielder Scott McTominay described his emotional rollercoaster of a journey at Manchester United ahead of his reported £25.7 million move to Napoli.

In a farewell interview on United's YouTube channel, the Scotsman said:

"Whenever my career is done, I'll look back at this stage of my career with Man United, I've been here since I was five years old. I've got so much love for this football club and I'm just so happy that I've got to experience some of the history and be a part of that as a young player coming through as well."
"If you'd have said to me seven years ago, coming into the first team, that I'd be in this position today and have my family experience some of our favourite moments at Old Trafford and away from home, I would have snapped your hand off," he added.
"I've absolutely loved it and I'm very, very grateful for the football club. I'm ready for a new challenge and I'm ready to go and embrace it and take it by storm," McTominay concluded.

With McTominay's departure, there is a great chance that Manchester United's youth academy talents Daniel Gore and Toby Collyer will be given a prominent role in Erik ten Hag's squad.
