Gary Lineker tells hilarious joke while covering Portugal match

Gary Lineker told a hilarious joke about legendary Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo while covering his penalty shootout loss to France on Friday, July 5. The Selecao played a close game with the French in Hamburg. It dragged out to penalties after both teams failed to find the back of the net in 120 minutes of play.

After 90 minutes, the players were attended to by the physios to freshen up ahead of extra time. Rio Ferdinand, who was also covering the game, noticed something.

Ronaldo's former Manchester United teammate, Ferdinand said when he noticed the legendary striker getting both his legs massaged simultaneously ahead of extra time.

“What's going on there? One masseuse on each leg !”

Without missing a beat, the former Leicester and Barcelona striker, Gary Lineker retorted:

“Thankfully he's not got three"

to absolute bedlam in the BBC studio and across the globe.

Cristiano Ronaldo could not convert his simultaneous massages into a goal in extra time. While the 39-year-old striker converted his penalty in the shootout, Joao Felix missed to see the Iberian nation eliminated.

Ronaldo ended his European adventure without finding the back of the net in the tournament. This is the first time that has happened at the Euros in his 20-year international career.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal promise before Euro 2024 exit

Legendary striker Cristiano Ronaldo vowed to always give his best for his country following their penalty shootout win over Slovenia in the Round of 16 at Euro 2024. The Portuguese were taken all the way to penalties after the Al-Nassr striker was denied from the spot in the 105th minute by Jan Oblak in goal.

Ronaldo stepped up and converted the first penalty of the shootout to help his country to the quarterfinals. After the game, he said via The Guardian:

“I will always give my best for this shirt, whether I fail or not, but you have to take responsibility when the team has to. I have never been afraid to face things head on. Sometimes I do things right, sometimes I don’t, but giving up is something you will never hear from me.”

Cristiano Ronaldo’s resolve could not push Portugal through in the next round after they played out another 0-0 draw with France. The Portuguese lost the tie on penalties after Joao Felix missed the only penalty of the shootout. It ended the legendary striker’s last dance at the Euros in the quarterfinals.
