Former Manchester United coach Rene Meulsteen has revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo dreams of playing alongside his son professionally before hanging up his boots. The legendary Portuguese star is playing at 39, while his son is 14 currently.
Meulsteen spent one year with the Portuguese legend at the Red Devils before he moved to Real Madrid. He believes the prolific forward is holding out to play alongside his son, Cristiano Jr.
Meulsteen said via Goal:
“One hundred per cent. He would love that. Maybe that might be extra motivation for him to keep going and waiting for that time to come."
“I said it years and years ago, Ronaldo will never leave as a candle that slowly burns down. If he feels that he can still make a massive contribution in the way he keeps going and playing, scoring goals. But there is a cut-off point for everybody, where the game runs away from you. That can sometimes happen whether you want it or not. I’m sure he has got plenty of motivation in him. He’s a fit boy, he looks after himself so well, and I bet he would love to play alongside his son," he added.
Cristiano Ronaldo has continued to perform at a high level since joining Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Nassr in January 2023 after his contract with Manchester United was mutually terminated in the winter of 2022. He has bagged 74 goals and 18 assists in 83 games.
“Cristiano Ronaldo would be very welcome back at Manchester United under Ruben Amorim, but he is onto bigger and better things" - Treble-winning forward makes claim about five-time Ballon d'Or winner
Manchester United's treble-winning striker Teddy Sheringham has claimed that Cristiano Ronaldo would be welcomed back at the club under Ruben Amorim. The Portuguese superstar is a legendary figure at Old Trafford after his two stints that bore 145 goals and 64 assists in 346 appearances.
In a recent interview, Sheringham, who was featured on the side that claimed a record-breaking treble win in 1999, spoke about the five-time Ballon d'Or winner.
In comments made to Flash Score via Goal, the former striker said:
“Cristiano Ronaldo would be very welcome back at Manchester United under Ruben Amorim, but he is onto bigger and better things. I think that Ronaldo will follow in the path of David Beckham in doing things away from coaching, higher profile things around the world. I'm sure he'd be very, very welcome in any capacity coming back to the club, but I doubt that he'll be a coach.”
Sheringham never played with the legendary Portuguese forward during a career that saw him play for Tottenham Hotspur, the Red Devils, and West Ham United. However, he faced the Real Madrid legend four times in his career, winning two and losing as many.
