Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham has sent a strong message after scoring a late winner in Los Blancos' 2-1 LaLiga win over Valencia on Friday, January 3. The win sent Carlo Ancelotti's side to the top of the league table, two points clear of Atletico Madrid, who have a game in hand.
Real Madrid went a goal down in the 27th minute of the match at Mestalla through a Hugo Duro strike. They trailed for almost an hour before Luka Modric equalized in the 85th minute. Bellingham then scored the winner late into the injury time to get all three points for his side.
However, it wasn't as straightforward for Ancelotti's side as Bellingham missed a penalty 10 minutes into the second half. Moreover, Vinicius Junior was sent off in the 79th minute as well.
Talking to the media after the last-gasp win, Bellingham noted (via Madrid Universal):
"When you're wearing this badge on your shirt, you never give up. It would have been very easy to blame myself for the penalty miss and lose the match, but that's not what we do. We showed Real Madrid's character today."
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti on last-gasp Valencia win
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti opened up on his side's performance against Valencia after the game. He noted there was a big difference in the team's approach in the two halves.
Addressing the media after the game, he said (via Football Espana):
“It’s difficult to explain how bad we were in the first half and how good we were in the second, and with one man less. They are three deserved points, but we cannot show these two faces. The first half was tremendously bad, the second part was tremendously good with ten.”
Madrid's next league fixture is against Las Palmas on January 19. Before that, they will face Minera in a Copa del Rey round-of-32 encounter on Monday, January 6, before playing Mallorca in the Supercopa de Espana semifinal on Thursday, January 9.
