Joshua Zirkzee has suggested Ruben Amorim's arrival has boosted morale at Manchester United, which played its part in a 4-0 win over Everton. The Dutch forward netted a brace against the Toffees at Old Trafford on Sunday (December 1).

Zirkzee had gone 17 games without scoring until he fired twice in Amorim's first Premier League win as United's new head coach. He was impressive throughout, playing with more threat than he had in recent months.

The 23-year-old highlighted how his teammates guided him through a difficult period in front of goal. He told Samuel Luckhurst of Manchester Evening News:

"Hard times create strong people and strong people bond. I think that's what's happening now. Obviously, the longer it takes before you get back on the scoresheet the more frustrating it gets."

Zirkzee added:

"But I have some great teammates who always keep my head up as well when I'm not keeping it up. They helped me a lot during that time as well. Today they were happy for me as well."

Zirkzee wasn't the only under-fire forward who got back among the goals in Manchester United's win against Everton. Marcus Rashford was also at the double to take his tally to three goals in two league games under Amorim.

The Red Devils moved up to ninth in the Premier League with their win at Old Trafford. They are next in action on Wednesday (December 4) when they travel to second-placed Arsenal.

Zirkzee's struggles at the start of the season led to widespread talk of an early Manchester United departure. The Dutchman was linked with a return to Serie A to join his former Bologna manager, Thiago Motta, at Juventus.

However, Sky Sport Germany's Florian Plettenberg reports that Zirkzee doesn't want out of Old Trafford. The club believe he has good potential and views his £36.5 million capture from Bologna as good business.

Zirkzee is competing with Rasmus Hojlund for a starting berth in Amorim's United team. The Portuguese tactician's 3-4-3 formation will likely see the duo rotate, as was the case against Everton.

Hojlund was benched despite scoring twice in a 3-2 comeback win against Bodo/Glimt in the UEFA Europa League midweek. Zirkzee boasts a different profile to the Dane, which helped the Red Devils flourish against a vulnerable Everton defense.
