Former England international Joe Cole has urged Arsenal to make a bold move for Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford. He believes Rashford could be a solid signing for the Gunners, who are reportedly keen to bolster their attack.
Speaking on TNT Sports, the former Chelsea star emphasized that Arsenal must focus on acquiring top-tier talent to strengthen their left flank, particularly if they are to build on their progress under Mikel Arteta.
Here's what Joe Cole said:
"Reports today that Marcus Rashford may be moved on by Manchester United. He’d be a hell of a signing! That’s where they have to shop, Arsenal – on the left side. They’ve got to shop for the very, very top players to improve this team."
Arsenal’s attacking setup has been bolstered by standout performances from Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz, but the left flank remains an area of potential improvement. While Gabriel Martinelli has shown glimpses of brilliance, his inconsistency has raised questions about his ability to make the position his own.
Leandro Trossard, though dependable, is regarded as a strong squad player rather than a guaranteed starter. Adding a dynamic and proven talent like Rashford could address this gap and bring a new dimension to Mikel Arteta’s attack.
Rashford’s future at Manchester United is increasingly uncertain, with reports from Sky Sports suggesting the club are willing to sell the England international.
Despite being one of the most promising forwards in recent years, Rashford’s form has stagnated, and Manchester United management may be open to offloading him to generate funds for a squad overhaul.
Arsenal have already shown ambition in the transfer market, securing Riccardo Calafiori and Mikel Merino on permanent deals this summer. They also brought in Raheem Sterling and Neto on season-long loans.
However, a move for Rashford would be a statement signing and a significant step toward closing the gap with the Premier League’s top sides.
Despite a sedate start to the season, the Englishman has scored three goals under new head coach Ruben Amorim. However, he finds himself in sticky waters after, having scored just 11 Premier League goals in the last two seasons.
Arsenal may have to shell out £40 million if they want to sign Marcus Rashford - Reports
According to Mail Sport, Manchester United are willing to part ways with the Englishman for a humble fee of £40 million. However, the same report also adds that the chances of Rashford leaving Old Trafford in the January transfer window may be very slim.
The club may be forced to offload the 27-year-old due to their financial constraints. United's financial woes have been exacerbated by significant losses, totalling £300 over the last three years. The club have also spent £200 million on transfers in the last two years, which further adds to the issues.
Thus, selling Rashford would show a 100% profit in the books as the forward has been with the club since the age of seven. Even a humble fee of £40 million would go a long way for the Red Devils.
As for the Gunners, £40 million for a player of Rashford's calibre would be an absolute bargain. With several years of experience already and with several more years left to go, the Englishman would be complimenting an already handsome-looking Arsenal roster.
