Brentford boss Thomas Frank said after his team's 3-1 Premier League home defeat to Arsenal in midweek that the title race with leaders Liverpool is set to go down to the wire.

The win - the Gunners' third on the trot - kept them second in the standings, six points behind the runaway leaders, who have a game in hand. Coming to the aforementioned game, Brentford made the perfect start, as Bryan Mbuemo fired them in front after 13 minutes.

However, Gabriel Jesus restored parity for the visitors midway through the first half before second-half strikes from Mikel Merino and Gabriel Martinelli sealed the three points for the Gunners.

Offering his two cents on the brewing title race between the Reds and the Gunners, Frank told Sky Sports (as per TBR):

“It’s a long season. I understand why Arne Slot is saying, ‘We haven’t won anything yet’. Liverpool haven’t had a dip yet, and that will most likely come, and Arsenal are picking up points when they’re not fully firing. It will go right to the end.”

Arne Slot's side have been one of the form teams this season, winning 14 of 18 games, with their lone defeat - 1-0 at home to Nottingham Forest - looking like an aberration.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta isn't too worried about the title race with Liverpool at the midway point of the season. The Gunners are seeking a first league title since their memorable 'Invincibles' triumph under Arsene Wenger in 2003-04.

Having finished second to Manchester City in the last two seasons, Arteta's side appear determined to get third-time lucky. However, the Spaniard knows that his team only need to focus on things they can control (saying as per the BBC):

"We can only win our next match and see what happens. It's not in our hands, but what is in our hands, we need to make sure we do it."

On the stirring second-half fightback at Brentford, he added

""We started really well. We took advantage of that, and we were very clinical in the box. We probably had to step back a little bit, but we looked OK."

Next up, the Gunners face Brighton & Hove Albion away on Saturday (January 4) before hosting Newcastle United in the EFL Cup semi-final first leg three days later.
