Former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler has claimed that Arne Slot will have to win over the Reds' squad once he takes over from outgoing manager Jürgen Klopp.
According to numerous reports, the Merseyside giants have reached an agreement with Feyenoord for the Dutch tactician. Slot is set to take over as the manager at Anfield this summer.
Slot is regarded as one of Europe's finest tacticians, and he will have the uphill task of filling Klopp's shoes. The outgoing German tactician has spent nine seasons at Anfield, where he helped change the trajectory of the club.
Club legend Fowler, who scored 183 goals for the Reds, believes that it won't be easy for Slot. He added that his primary assignment will be to help the Reds' players adjust after Klopp's departure.
Fowler wrote in his column for Daily Mirror:
"He’s done OK at Feyenoord the last couple of seasons, but only time will tell if he can take Liverpool to greater heights than Klopp managed."
Fowler continued:
"That will be a tall order, but the more pressing problem for the Reds is getting some stability back into players feeling the effects of Jürgen's imminent departure. They’ve had nearly nine years of Klopp at Liverpool and suddenly everything is about to change."
Liverpool legend claims he didn't see Arne Slot's appointment coming
The Reds are expected to make the appointment of Dutch tactician Slot official soon after having reached an agreement with his club side Feyenoord.
The news of Slot's appointment at Anfield took a lot of people by surprise, and club legend Fowler recently claimed that he never saw the appointment coming.
Fowler wrote:
"I’ll be honest, I hadn’t a clue Slot was even in the conversation among the power brokers who run Liverpool. He wasn’t someone who jumped out at me as a candidate. In fact, I knew nothing about Slot at all or the way he plays and, probably like many people, I dived into Google to check him out."
It will be interesting to see how the Dutch tactician fares when he takes up the hot seat at Anfield this summer. His Feyenoord side is currently second in the Eredivisie with 75 points after 31 games.
