Chelsea great Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink has shared his thoughts on the future of Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah amid his contract standoff with the Premier League side. The former striker advised that both parties part ways at the end of the season despite Salah's impressive form.
Mohamed Salah has been in sensational form since Arne Slot became Liverpool's coach, with 21 goals and 17 assists to his name this season. The Egypt international wants a lucrative contract to remain at Anfield and has spoken out multiple times about leaving the club.
Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink spoke with BetMGM about Salah's future at Anfield, praising the former Chelsea man for his mental strength to perform excellently despite his contract situation. He did, however, point out that Salah's age should be considered in negotiations, seeing as the forward will turn 33 in the summer.
"There are not a lot of players like Salah who will be playing as well as he is in the last year of their contract. He can obviously put all of the distractions to the side and perform like he has been – I think it really shows how mentally strong he is. If I'm the manager of Liverpool, I obviously want to keep all three of Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
"If I'm the owner and with a business hat on, I would let Salah go because of his age. You would have to pay him mega money and I just don't think you can give a player of his age a three-year contract. Business-wise, it's not sustainable and the best business for Liverpool is to see him go."
Mohamed Salah leads the way for both goals and assists in the Premier League, helping his side reach the top of the standings. The forward, alongside Virgil Van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, may be on his way out of the club due to a contract dispute.
Mohamed Salah fails to dazzle as Liverpool suffer shock defeat to Tottenham
Liverpool star Mohamed Salah had an unusually quiet game as his side succumbed to a 1-0 defeat away to Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup semifinal. The London side will take a slight advantage into the second leg at Anfield after an impressive first lead on home soil.
Ange Postecoglou's side saw 18-year-old Lucas Bergvall score his first goal for the club in the second half to seal the win. Goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky made his debut for the club, keeping a clean sheet and impressing between the sticks.
Salah attempted only two shots throughout the game, also creating only one chance in his 90 minutes of action. He touched the ball four times in the Spurs penalty box and failed to complete a single dribble. The former Chelsea man attempted only one duel in the game, which he lost, as well.
