"The best decision I made in my life" – Former Manchester United star on decision to leave club

Fulham star Andreas Pereira has suggested that departing Manchester United has undoubtedly been the best decision of his playing career.

Pereira, who joined the Red Devils' academy from PSV Eindhoven in 2011, sealed a permanent transfer worth up to £10 million to Fulham in the summer of 2022. He helped his club end 10th and 13th in the 2022-23 and the 2023-24 Premier League terms respectively.

During a recent interview with The Standard, Pereira was asked to comment on his decision to end his 11-year-long stay at Manchester United. The Brazilian replied:

"I think it was the best decision I made in my life. To come to live and play here, to enjoy my football, to get back into the national team with great players, to enjoy my football in the Premier League, leaving is the best decision I made. The time I was there, I really enjoyed being at a fantastic club. But I don't regret leaving."

Pereira, who made just 75 senior appearances for United, continued:

"We [the players in my situation] have this desire to show it was wrong that we didn't play. With everyone's help around me [at Fulham], I achieved a great season. We started the season by losing a very important player, [Aleksandar] Mitrovic. We had to search for a way we have to play without him. In January, Rodrigo [Muniz] came in, scored all the goals and made my life easier!"

Pereira, whose current contract is set to run out in June 2026, has started 76 of his 82 appearances across all competitions for Fulham. He has netted eight goals and registered 15 assists for his current club.

Erik ten Hag states Manchester United star has point to prove in upcoming campaign

During an interaction with The Guardian, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag was asked if Marcus Rashford has to rediscover his form next season. He replied:

"Of course, but he has to prove his point. We will set the conditions [give him all support] and [then] he is very capable of doing this. The season before he scored 30 goals, so when he is in the right vibe, he has such a high potential. And when he is really in that mood, he [can] again score 30 or even more goals."

Last campaign, Rashford bagged just eight goals and contributed five assists in 43 matches across all competitions for Manchester United.

The 26-year-old relished his best-ever season in the 2022-23 term as he recorded 30 goals and 10 assists in 56 games for the Red Devils.
