Gary Neville has named Chelsea forward Cole Palmer as the only Premier League player who is on the same level as Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah. He believes that the two players are the best in terms of numbers in the game and are on a level above everyone else.
Speaking on NBC Sports, Neville heaped praise on Palmer after his two goals and an assist in the win over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday (December 8), saying:
"Palmer and Salah, I think, at this moment in time, are the very best in terms of what they're doing."
This was not the first time he has praised the Englishman this season. Speaking about Palmer in October, Neville said on The Overlap:
"I mean, seriously. He [Cole Palmer] plays for Manchester City as a kid, he supports Manchester United, then he goes to Chelsea and starts scoring 3,000 goals and signs a 42-year contract so we can't even get him back! Palmer has an unbelievable understanding of the game, unbelievable technical ability and the composure in front of goal. When you put those three together, that's really, really special."
"And you cannot believe right now, sat here how Man City have got that one so wrong. I never thought for one season we were going to get someone who would become a game changer, a match-winner regularly for his team and his composure and the quality of his finishing is — I don't want to say Messi-like the way he passes it into the net, but it's is that ilk in the way in which he finishes."
Cole Palmer has been involved in 50 goals for Chelsea in just 48 Premier League matches. He has scored 33 goals and assisted 17 times – the most by any player in the league since the start of last season, which is one more than Liverpool's Mohamed Salah.
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher praises Chelsea star after Premier League heroics
Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher was on Sky Sports following the game against Tottenham when he claimed that Cole Palmer was the best player in the Premier League since the start of last season. He backed the Englishman to be a great for the Stamford Bridge side and said:
"When you think of Chelsea's flair players like Gianfranco Zola and Eden Hazard, I think Palmer has done more in 18 months than Zola did and Zola is one of Chelsea's greatest ever players. He's on the same level as Hazard and that came over four or five years. If he takes Chelsea to a title, then he'd go down as one of their greatest-ever players if he keeps doing what he's doing. He's a special player."
Enzo Maresca's side have moved to second in the Premier League table – 4 points behind Liverpool, who have a game in hand. The Reds did not play this weekend after their Merseyside derby against Everton was postponed due to the weather.
