Lille striker Jonathan David recently opened up about his contract situation amidst links with Barcelona. The Canada international is set to become a free agent in the summer.

The Blaugrana are set to be in the transfer market for a striker. Robert Lewandowski has scored 23 goals in 24 appearances across competitions but he's set to turn 37 in August 2025. Hence, the Spanish giants are looking for his replacement and have been linked with Jonathan David, as per Sport (via Barca Universal).

The Canadian striker recently spoke about his contract situation at Lille, saying:

“As the president has stated on several occasions, there are negotiations. We are talking, but no decision has been made yet. We are still talking, and the door is never closed. It’s 50-50.”

David joined Lille from KAA Gent and has recorded 101 goals and 23 assists in 209 games for them. He's scored 17 goals and provided five assists in 26 games across competitions this season.

The likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Bayern Munich have also been linked with a potential move for David along with Barcelona. The Canadian will be open to signing a pre-contract with foreign clubs in January for a potential summer transfer.

Barcelona star's agent opens up on his contract situation at the club

Lamine Yamal has become one of the key players for Barcelona at just 17. He made his debut as a 15-year-old in 2023 and has since recorded 13 goals and 21 assists in 72 senior games. However, his contract with the Spanish giants expires in 2026.

Yamal's agent Jorge Mendes recently asserted that the youngster will stay at the club, saying (via Barca Blaugranes):

“Lamine Yamal will surely renew soon, he must stay at Barcelona. I can’t tell you if he will renew in a month or two, but it will definitely happen. The truth is that Lamine was phenomenal last season. For me and for many others he was the best player in the world last year, both with Spain and with FC Barcelona.
“He is a totally different player to all the others: he knows what he needs for his future, he is a balanced boy and I think he is ready to be at the top for many years to come. Now he is recovering from the injury, he must be a little patient and he will soon be back in the team.”

Yamal has scored six goals and provided 12 assists in 21 games across competitions this season. He is currently out injured but Barca hope he will be available for their Supercopa de Espana semi-final against Athletic Club on January 8.
