Robbie Fowler has hit out at Darwin Nunez and claimed that the striker does not look like a Liverpool player. He believes that the Uruguayan needs to score goals and not just to work hard on the pitch.
Speaking on ITV during Liverpool's win over Accrington Stanley, Fowler stated that Nunez needs to be doing better on the pitch and he has not improved in the last three years. The Reds legend is not happy with the forward's output and said:
"We’re saying the same things now as we were two or three years ago. He’s raw, he’s this, he’s that. You can’t keep saying that. For me, the more I see him the more I think he’s not a Liverpool player. People might have a go at me for saying this because he works hard, you’re not signing a player because he works hard. That should be a prerequisite anyway. You’ve got to come here and score goals. I know he’s a fan favourite for what he puts in, but at the time we’re talking now you’ve got to perform better and do better in that Liverpool shirt."
Darwin Nunez got an assist as Arne Slot's side sealed a 4-0 win over Accrington Stanley. He helped them open the scoring but failed to get on the scoresheet despite playing the whole game.
Robbie Fowler gives advice to Liverpool star Darwin Nunez
Robbie Fowler believes Darwin Nunez is not quick enough in decision-making and needs to work on his finishing. He claims that the forward has not shown his abilities and said:
"I don’t think he’s quick enough in his thought in terms of how he should be finishing. He’s quick over the ground, we know how quick he is, but when you are a striker your speed of thought has got to be quicker than anyone else. When he has time to think about it he struggles. When he’s instinctive, sometimes he looks a little bit better but we still probably want a little bit more. I think it’s speed of thought as a striker in terms of where he should be and how he finishes with any part of his body, feet or head, it’s got to improve."
Darwin Nunez has scored just four goals for Liverpool this season despite playing 26 matches in all competitions. He has three assists as well, two of them coming in the Premier League and one in the Carabao Cup.
