Barcelona fans have waxed lyrical about Lamine Yamal after he starred in their 4-1 La Liga win against Girona on Sunday, September 15. The 17-year-old has had a phenomenal start to the season, scoring three goals and providing four assists in five games to date.
Yamal was the architect of La Blaugrana's opener in the 30th minute after he robbed David Lopez of possession and went through on goal. The Euro 2024 winner kept his composure to curl the ball past the keeper. He then completed his brace seven minutes later with another outstanding curler into the bottom-left corner.
Dani Olmo made it 3-0 for Barcelona in the 47th minute with an exceptional volley from a tight angle. However, the former LB Leipzig star was forced off with an injury soon after. Pedri slotted home to make it four in the 64th minute before Cristhian Stuani netted a consolation goal in the 80th minute.
Ferran Torres was given a straight red card for a poor foul, reducing the Blaugrana to 10 men late on, but they were able to hold on to their lead to seal a comfortable win.
Yamal had an excellent game, registering four shots on target from five attempts. He also created one chance, won 10 duels, and made eight recoveries. One fan reacted by stating that Yamal is the heir to Barcelona legend Lionel Messi:
"Yamal is 100% beating the "poor finisher" allegations this season. This kid is the real heir to Messi, his potential can honestly take him beyond him."
Another Barcelona fan tweeted:
