Portugal fans have slammed Joao Felix on X with a section believing he has something against Cristiano Ronaldo after he squandered a massive opportunity in their 2-1 win against Scotland. A Selecao secured their second 2024 Nations League victory on Sunday (September 8), after having recently defeated Croatia 2-1.
Scotland took a shock lead in the seventh minute via Scott McTominay's header. Roberto Martinez and Co. had numerous opportunities to get back into the game in the first half, but were unable to apply the finishing touch.
Cristiano Ronaldo - who was excluded from the starting XI to be rested - was subbed on at half-time to change the course of the game. Bruno Fernandes found the equalizer from distance in the 54th minute before Martinez subbed on Chelsea's Joao Felix in the 68th minute for Rafael Leao.
Ronaldo produced a piece of magic in the 78th minute, back heeling the ball and playing Felix through on goal. However, the latter's attempt was thwarted by Angus Gunn. Felix's effort four minutes later was saved once again, with Ronaldo's header from the rebound hitting the woodwork.
Fortunately for Portugal, Cristiano Ronaldo proved decisive once again, netting the winner in the 88th minute to seal all three points for his nation.
However, fans were furious with Felix for denying Ronaldo an outstanding assist. One posted:
"I genuinely believe Joao Felix has something against Ronaldo"
Another tweeted:
"The most useless player."
