Ex-Tottenham Hotspur manager Tim Sherwood has asserted that Trent Alexander-Arnold will not renew his deal at Liverpool and leave on a Bosman move next year.
Alexander-Arnold, 26, has popped up as one of the major topics of discussion over the last couple of months. He has entered the last12 months of his contract and is reportedly linked with a move to Real Madrid.
However, Alexander-Arnold has maintained his excellent form for Liverpool despite recent speculations about his future. He has laid out two assists in 11 total outings this season, helping his side win 10 of them.
During a recent chat with Sky Sports, Sherwood was asked if Liverpool's fine start to the term could help them retain Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, and Mohamed Salah. He replied (h/t Metro):
"That helps. We're talking about three top-drawer players there who want to win trophies. They don't want to sit there just to challenge for Champions League positions. They all want to win stuff so this start helps, it can only help."
Claiming the right-back will join Real Madrid, Sherwood added:
"I think with Trent, I think he's gone. Once Real Madrid come knocking for you... he's won everything at the football club and been a magnificent servant but there's no chance they're keeping him now. With Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah, I think it's completely different because I'm not sure where they are going to go which is better than Liverpool."
Alexander-Arnold, who is reportedly earning £180,000-per-week now, has featured in 321 appearances across competitions for the Reds. He has netted 19 goals and provided 83 assists for his boyhood club.
How good has been Liverpool's start so far?
Liverpool, who replaced legendary manager Jurgen Klopp with ex-Feyenoord man Arne Slot earlier this May, have won 11 of their 12 total matches this season. They are atop the league table and are also level on points with Aston Villa in the UEFA Champions League table.
Arne Slot's club, who became the first Reds side to win all of their six away games of a season, have bagged 26 goals in 12 overall outings so far. They have shipped just five goals, including three in the league.
Following their 1-0 Champions League victory at RB Leipzig earlier on Wednesday (October 23), the Reds will visit Arsenal for a league contest this Sunday. They will face Brighton & Hove Albion two times, Bayer Leverkusen, and Aston Villa before the next international break.
