Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has heaped praise on his fellow midfielders ahead of their clash against Manchester United on Sunday, January 5. The Merseyside giants have been in sensational form this season under Arne Slot who was appointed last summer.
Arne Slot has mostly used a 4-2-3-1 system at the Merseyside club contrary to his predecessor Jurgen Klopp's 4-3-3. The Dutchman's style of football has some similarities with Klopp as well but there are also some key differences.
While Klopp wanted his team to play at a higher intensity more often, Slot's Liverpool play a more patient game. The new system has brought the best out of the Reds' midfielders.
Alexis Mac Allister has heaped huge praise on his midfield colleagues ahead of the Manchester United game this weekend. He also highlighted that the defense and attack support the midfielders incredibly well. The World Cup-winning Argentina international said, as quoted by Liverpool Echo:
"I always say it's quite easy to play with these guys. They are too good. And we are supported by our defense and our attacking players as well. I think it's about finding the balance in the team and I think everyone in the team is doing really, really well. Hopefully we can keep this togetherness and we can move forward and keep winning games."
Mac Allister added:
"We know that we are in a really good place and, of course, we look at the table every single day and we dream to win this Premier League. But there is still a long way (to go). We know that this month is going to be really important for us. Our dream is to win it, so hopefully we can do it."
Alexis Mac Allister has been a big success at Liverpool following his reported £35 million switch from Brighton in 2023. He has made 71 appearances for the Reds thus far, scoring 10 goals and providing nine assists.
The Merseyside giants lead both the Premier League and Champions League tables this season. They host their bitter rivals Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday and will be huge favorites against the struggling Red Devils.
Joe Cole predicts the outcome of Liverpool vs Manchester United
Joe Cole has claimed that it won't be a cakewalk for Liverpool to beat their bitter rivals Manchester United on Sunday, January 5. The Red Devils are in all sorts of problems of late and will be up against Arne Slot's side who have been in red-hot form this season.
Despite the two teams in contrasting forms, Joe Cole has claimed that the game could be tighter than most expect. The former Liverpool winger has, however, backed his former club to secure a 2-1 victory. The ex-Chelsea star told Paddy Power:
"It’s a derby and it’s a one-off game. But having said that, you can’t look past this Liverpool side. Manchester United will turn up, make a game of it, but Liverpool will win 2-1."
The pundit added:
"Manchester United might threaten on the counter-attack and get a goal, but they’ll get pinned back at Anfield up against the Kop."
Liverpool have been in scintillating form this season following Arne Slot's arrival in the summer.
Manchester United, on the contrary, are 14th in the table and have lost their four games back to back. The Red Devils have won just six of their 19 league games this season.
