Arsenal legend Ian Wright has suggested that Raheem Sterling has yet to create a good partnership with right-back Ben White following his summer arrival from rivals Chelsea.
Sterling, 29, left Chelsea to join the Gunners on a season-long loan deal in search of more first-team minutes. He has started three of his seven appearances across competitions for his new club this season.
Last weekend, Sterling started Arsenal's 2-0 Premier League loss at Bournemouth but was substituted off in the 37th minute following William Saliba's sending off. He was replaced by centre-back Jakub Kiwior.
Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, Wright revealed his concerns about the former Manchester City winger's lack of connection with White. He elaborated (h/t Metro):
"Going into the game, the way Bournemouth play and how hard they work... we couldn't deal with [Antoine] Semenyo in that game. Raheem Sterling and Ben White, they haven't got the same chemistry as White and [Bukayo] Saka and what we saw is how much you miss someone like Saka."
Wright, who helped Arsenal lift one Premier League title, added:
"Semenyo was too much for us, we couldn't deal with him. Raheem... it is still not quite clicking for Raheem. I didn't expect us to lose the game but when you look at the mistakes, you should get punished and we did."
Sterling, who has registered a goal and an assist for the Gunners so far, could play in his side's next league match against leaders Liverpool this Sunday (October 27). However, should Saka recover from his hamstring injury, the Chelsea loanee could be benched in the clash.
Arsenal urged to sign 26-year-old striker
Speaking to Metro, former Gunners defender Bacary Sagna urged his former team to rope in Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres. He opined:
"I'd like to see Arsenal go for Viktor Gyokeres – he's amazing. He's a pure striker who would offer some depth. He's also quite tall so whenever the team are out wide, they can cross the ball a bit more and that's been missing a bit for me. He'll help them be dangerous from crosses and set pieces and in open play, he's clinical."
Gyokeres, 26, has found the back of the net 13 times and registered four assists in 13 total appearances for Sporting CP so far this campaign.
Last season, the Swede produced 43 goals and 15 assists in 50 overall outings for his club following his £20 million move from Coventry City.
