Pundit Alan Shearer has predicted the winner of the upcoming Premier League clash between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Manchester United. The two sides are set to face off at the Molineux on Boxing Day (December 26), with the aim of taking all three points.
It will not be an easy task for either side. The hosts are coming off an impressive 3-0 win over Leicester City, breaking their concerning run of four games without a win. They currently sit in the relegation zone and will need a win against their visitors to leave the red, if results elsewhere go in their favor.
For the Red Devils, the situation is only a little better. While they were recently dealt a blow in their 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth, they notably beat Premier League champions Manchester City 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium. They currently sit in 13th place, looking to rise into the top half of the table as the year runs out.
Despite both sides going into the game with hopes for a win, Alan Shearer believes they will share the spoils. He shared his prediction with Metro, stating:
"What a result it was for Wolves against Leicester, that was a massive game for them and their new manager, for them to go and beat Leicester up as they did and claw themselves closer to them was big. Manchester United are really poor all over the pitch at this moment in time and will find this tricky. I’m going to go for a draw."
The two sides last faced off on February 1 in the 2023-24 season, with the Red Devils winning that match 4-3 at the Molineux. United also won their meeting at Old Trafford earlier that season, beating Wolves 1-0 on August 14, 2023.
"I forget the interview now and see what I see on the pitch" - Ruben Amorim opens up about Manchester United superstar
Ruben Amorim has opened up about Manchester United superstar Marcus Rashford, who is on the verge of an exit from Old Trafford. The winger revealed his plans for "a new challenge" in an interview with journalist Henry Winter, after he was dropped from the squad in their 2-1 win over City at the Etihad on December 15.
Since the interview, he has been left out of their following matches against Tottenham Hotspur and Bournemouth, and it is unlikely that he will face Wolves. Ruben Amorim has now spoken about the Rashford interview, telling Sky Sports (via BBC):
"It is a hard situation. I understand these players have a lot of people around them, making choices that are not the first idea from the player. They chose to do the interview as it is not just Marcus."
The Manchester United head coach made it clear that he was not focused on what Rashford had said in the interview, adding:
"At the moment I'm focused on improving Marcus. We need a talented guy like Marcus. I forget the interview now and see what I see on the pitch."
Marcus Rashford broke into the Manchester United first team in 2016, going on to score 138 goals in 426 appearances for the club. However, his time at Old Trafford may have reached its end.
