Liverpool manager Arne Slot believes Chelsea will challenge for the Premier League title in the upcoming season. He pointed out how the Blues have invested heavily in the squad, and they will be well-placed to be among the contenders in the next few terms.
During a press conference, Slot admitted that his side failed to dominate the match against Chelsea at Anfield on Sunday, October 21. He was happy with the three points but acknowledged that Enzo Maresca's side made it difficult for them. He said (via Metro):
"I don't think we outplayed Chelsea, we certainly didn't. I think they were more dominant than us with the ball. In an ideal world I would have seen us dominate the complete game like we did in so many other games. We are not there yet but the good thing about this team and the result was that if you face a team like Chelsea, you see a team that is fighting for every centimetre and for every moment and that is what we did."
"I'm hoping in the future, hopefully in the near future, that when we play a game like this we are more dominant than we were against Chelsea. But that probably says a lot about Chelsea as well. A lot of people in England were making fun of Chelsea earlier in the season for investing so much money and bringing in all these players that weren't in the squad but in my opinion, they have done really well in the last two of three years bringing so many talented players in. They have such a strong squad with such a good manager that they will be up there in the coming years. That is my opinion, let's see if I am right," he added.
Liverpool are currently top of the Premier League table with 21 points after eight matches. The Reds are a point ahead of second-placed Manchester City and four ahead of third-placed Arsenal and Aston Villa at fourth.
Liverpool defeated Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday
Mohamed Salah and Curtis Jones scored in either half to help Liverpool collect all three points on Sunday. The Reds took the lead from the spot through Salah but the Blues pulled level early in the second half with Nicolas Jackson scoring in the 48th minute.
However, just three minutes later, Curtis Jones restored the hosts' lead. They held on to their lead and walked away with all three points.
Arne Slot's side have conceded just three goals this season and are looking to break Chelsea's incredible record of 15 goals conceded in a season. The Blues are currently sixth in the table and are eyeing a place in the top four this season.
