Former Chelsea striker Chris Sutton has backed Liverpool to get the better of Wolverhampton Wanderers this weekend. The Reds travel to the Amex on Saturday, September 28, to face the Wolves in the Premier League.
The Merseyside club have taken to Arne Slot's tactics like fish to water this season. Brought in to replace Jurgen Klopp over the summer, the Dutch manager has registered six wins in their opening seven games.
The 1-0 league defeat to Nottingham Forest at home earlier this month remains the only time Slot's team has failed to score this season.
Wolverhampton Wanderers, meanwhile, have endured a difficult campaign so far. The Midlands club have registered four defeats and one draw from their five games in the Premier League so far.
In his column for The BBC, however, Sutton backed Wolves to put up a fight against Liverpool.
"Wolves have not been as bad as their results suggest but I suspect the fans' patience is wearing a bit thin with their manager, Gary O'Neil. That is slightly unfortunate, and unfair, because overall he did well last season, but the way Wolves ended the last campaign poorly and have started this one the same way does not help him, clearly," wrote Sutton.
He continued:
"This game probably won't do much for his cause, either. It is hard to look past a Liverpool win, based on their firepower and their strength off the bench. They wiped the floor with Bournemouth last week and, while this will be closer, I still think Liverpool will win it. Sutton's prediction: 1-2."
The Reds have scored 10 goals and conceded just one in the league so far.
Can Arne Slot continue his momentum with Liverpool?
When Jurgen Klopp announced his decision to leave Anfield at the end of the season, the club faithful would have been worried. The German manager enjoyed tremendous success with the Reds, helping them win multiple trophies.
Arne Slot was identified as the right man to take the Merseyside club forward and the early signs are extremely positive. The Dutchman has successfully implemented his style of play, using the players at his disposal to good effect.
Liverpool have scored three goals or more on four occasions this season, including the 5-1 demolition of West Ham United in the EFL Cup third round on Thursday (September 26). With games against Chelsea, RB Leipzig, and Arsenal next month, Slot will be determined to maintain his team's momentum by picking up a convincing win over Wolverhampton Wanderers this weekend.
