Former Chelsea defender Thiago Silva has reacted to the Blues fans singing his name during the friendly against Inter on Sunday (August 11). The Brazilian departed the club in the summer to join Fluminense.
Silva was at Stamford Bridge for four seasons after joining from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in 2020 on a free transfer. The centre-half became an integral part of the west Londoners' squad despite being well over 30. He made 155 appearances across competitions for Chelsea, bagging nine goals and four assists.
While the Blues need to move on to a new central defensive partnership, the fans of the club continue to chant the 39-year-old player's name. Enzo Maresca's team played out a 1-1 draw in a friendly against Inter on Sunday (August 11).
Reacting to a post claiming that his name was being sung at the match, Silva left a comment on Instagram for fans, writing:
"I love you."
With his Chelsea contract running out this summer, Silva decided to move to Fluminense, where he will play till 2026. While with the Blues, the 39-year-old won the only UEFA Champions League trophy of his career and the FIFA Club World Cup, among other honors.
Maresca and company will prepare for competitive football life without Silva, with their opening Premier League match set to take place against Manchester City on Sunday (August 18).
Heading into this tie, Wesley Fofana, Levi Colwill, Tosin Adarabioyo, and Benoit Badiashile will be in contention for a central defensive starting spot.
Chelsea centre-back expected to leave Stamford Bridge this summer- Reports
Chelsea central defender Trevoh Chalobah will reportedly be offloaded in the current transfer window. According to HITC, the 25-year-old, who was previously against a move away, is now open to joining another team.
The report claims Chalobah will not be included in Enzo Maresca's Premier League squad in the upcoming season. Given the number of options the Italian has for that position, this wouldn't be too much of a surprise.
The aforementioned report also mentioned that the defender is drawing interest from clubs in the English top flight like Fulham and Crystal Palace. However, he may not be a cheap acquisition, with four years still left on his contract at Stamford Bridge.
To date, Chalobah has made 80 appearances across competitions for Chelsea, bagging five goals and an assist.
