Former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke has urged his erstwhile club to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool if the opportunity arises. He believes that the Englishman could be available soon if the defender does not fit into Arne Slot's system.
Speaking to Best Online Poker Sites, Yorke stated that Liverpool's transition from Jurgen Klopp to Slot could leave the likes of Alexander-Arnold unhappy. Predicting that the new manager could push the Englishman to play in the midfield, he said:
"I'm not sure Trent Alexander-Arnold would want to leave L'pool as it's his boyhood club, but L'pool will be under transition now Jurgen Klopp has left. Maybe, Alexander-Arnold can evolve as a midfielder under Slot. This could be another opportunity where, if L'pool don't perform under Slot and Alexander-Arnold becomes unhappy, Man United should do everything they can to sign him.
"I was the first person to suggest that Man United should have signed Leroy Sane started to become frustrated at Man City when he was on the bench frequently, now he's one of the best players in Germany."
Yorke wants his former side Manchester United to take the opportunity and sign Alexander-Arnold if they can. He added:
“Alexander-Arnold may have a similar opportunity which Man United should pounce on. Obviously, there is history between the clubs and Alexander-Arnold will know that as an Englishman, but it can be an opportunity to look out for."
Alexander-Arnold has just a year left on his Liverpool contract and is yet to pen a new deal. Real Madrid are already monitoring the situation, but Manchester United are currently not in the race despite Yorke's idea.
Liverpool urged to focus on contract renewals soon
Former Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp was on Sky Sports when he urged Liverpool to focus on contract renewals as they cannot lose key players. Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk are reportedly in the last year of their deals and will be free to discuss with other clubs from January.
He said via Daily Mail:
"The one thing is, when you look at the contract situation, there are players that have got like, obviously Trent and Virgil Van Dijk they've only got a year left of their contract."
Manchester United are currently not looking to sign any player from the Anfield side. They are in the market for a defender, a right-back and a forward but none of the Liverpool trio are on their list.
