Fans have reacted as Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal start without Diogo Jota for their Euro 2024 clash with Turkey in Dortmund on Saturday (June 22). Ronaldo and Co. opened their campaign with a 2-1 comeback win over the Czech Republic.

The 2016 Euro champions were rocked by Lukas Provod's 62nd-minute opener in Leipzig. But an own goal from Robin Hranac seven minutes later and substitute Francisco Conceicao's stoppage-time winner ensured that A Selecao took all three points.

Meanwhile, Turkey are also off to a winning start to their campaign, beating Georgia 3-1, but face a significant step-up in opposition as they take on Roberto Martinez's side.

Fans, though, aren't happy with Martinez not including the 27-year-old Jota in the starting line-up.

One fan tweeted:

"Still no Jota? You're not ready to win"

Another chimed in:

"Leao starting of Jota again. This guy doesn't want Ronaldo to win a trophy"

Similar fan reactions followed, with Maudit tweeting:

"Why Jota and Felix don't play wtffff"

Vik wrote:

"NO JOTA? LOSEEEE"

Resilencelfc posted:

"Why bench Jota?"

A win over Turkey will confirm A Selecao's place in the knockouts with a game to spare.

Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo holds a slew of records at the European Championship. For starters, the 39-year-old is the competition's record appearance maker (26 games) and record goalscorer - both in qualifying (44) and finals (14).

By taking the field in the 2-1 Euro 2024 win over the Czech Republic, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner became the first player to appear in six different editions of the Euros. His teammate Pepe and Croatia's Luka Modric (five each) are next.

Ronaldo's next goal at the Euros will make him the first player to score in six different editions of the European Championship. For context, no other player has scored in more than three. It will also make the Portugal captain the oldest player to score in the Euro finals.

Meanwhile, another assist will take Ronaldo level with the Czech Republic's Karel Poborsky (eight). The Al-Nassr forward is also looking to surpass Leonardo Bonucci as the oldest player to score in an Euro final.
