Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher insisted Chelsea's impressive campaign "is no underdog story." His comments came after the Blues' 4-3 win over Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Sunday, December 8.
Chelsea have spent heavily in the transfer market over the last few windows and finally seem to be reaping the fruits of their investments.
Carragher said on Sky Sports (via @CFCPys on X):
“This is no underdog story, they’ve spent £1.2 billion.”
Chelsea, with 31 points from 15 games, are now two points clear of third-placed Arsenal and four points behind table-toppers Liverpool, who have a game in hand.
Enzo Maresca's side will next travel to face FC Astana in the Conference League on Thursday, December 12.
Chelsea manager pleased to bring fans derby day joy
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca expressed his satisfaction with the return of good times at Stamford Bridge following his side's derby day victory over Tottenham. The Blues endured a tough last season but have performed well under the Italian tactician this term.
Maresca has managed Chelsea in 23 games across competitions, winning 15, drawing four, and losing four to average 2.13 points per game. His performances have the fans bouncing and cheering.
When asked how he felt about the optimism surrounding the club, Maresca told the press via The Football Faithful:
“For the fans and for us, I said in the week that we were working to make the fans happy, and today they can be happy. The plan or the idea is to not let the players slow down. They can not drop because they know another player is waiting to come in.”
Chelsea are on a five-match winning streak across competitions and look set to finish 2024 as the closest team to Premier League leaders Liverpool.
The Italian will hope he can lead his side to at least a top-four finish at the end of the campaign following their brilliant start to life under his tutelage.
