France forward Antoine Griezmann missed a great chance to give his side an early lead against the Netherlands at Euro 2024 on Friday (June 21). The incident happened in the 14th minute, with Adrien Rabiot playing a one-two with Marcus Thuram before being released inside the box.

Rabiot found himself one-one-one with Dutch goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen, but instead of shooting, he squared it to Griezmann, who fumbled his effort with the goal at his mercy.

Fans on social media were left perplexed with the move, with many criticising Griezmann's effort, while some wondered why Rabiot didn’t go for goal himself. Here are some reactions:

“HOW DID FRANCE NOT SCORE FROM THIS POSITION,” ESPN FC posted on their X account.
“Totally unbelievable miss,” a user commented.
“Bad pass from Rabiot, should have taken the shot,” another wrote.
“Griezmann having no right foot that he spun and fell on the ball instead of scoring that easy finish is going to be funny forever,” a fan wrote.
“Rabiot HAS to have Griezmann in his fantasy team because WHY DIDN'T HE SHOOT,” another fan wrote.
“Why tf didn’t Rabiot shoot himself, there?! Griezmann 100% didn’t see that coming,” another wrote.

Kylian Mbappe will not be allowed to wear a mask sporting the colours of the French flag after suffering a nose injury in Le Bleus’ opening Euro 2024 game with Austria.

Mbappe broke his nose after colliding with Austrian defender Kevin Danso while attempting to win a header late in the game. The former Paris Saint-Germain forward was bleeding profusely following the challenge and needed to be taken off for medical assistance.

While the injury isn’t too serious, Mbappe will have to wear a mask to protect his nose for the remainder of the tournament. He was also spotted wearing a tricolor mask during training earlier this week.

However, the Real Madrid superstar won't be allowed to wear that mask. Article 42 of the UEFA equipment regulations reads:

“Medical equipment worn on the playing field must be of a single color and must not allow the team or manufacturer to be identified.”

The 25-year-old started France’s game against the Netherlands on the bench.
