Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur has provided a reassuring update following his injury against Liverpool on Wednesday. The Uruguayan midfielder started the game as the two teams faced off in the first leg of the EFL Cup semifinal.

In the fifth minute of the match, the 27-year-old went up for a corner and then appeared to fall awkwardly. He landed on the turf and remained static, prompting concern among the players.

Medics were rushed in and play had to be halted for around 10 minutes. Bentancur required oxygen on the pitch and was carried off on a stretcher with the entire stadium applauding. Tottenham later provided an update on his situation via social media, stating:

"We can confirm Rodrigo is conscious, talking and will go to hospital for further checks."

Spurs opted to replace the Uruguayan with Brennan Johnson, with Lucas Bergvall and Dejan Kulusevski adjusting their positions to reshape Ange Postecoglou's formation. Interestingly, Bergvall found the back of the net in the 86th minute to secure a stunning 1-0 win for the north London side.

They now head into the second leg, to be played on February 6, with a slight advantage. Meanwhile, Bentancur has since provided an update on his situation via social media, revealing that he is fine.

"All good, guys! Thank you for the messages!!! Congratulations for the victory bys!!!"

Tottenham Hotspur next face National League side Tamworth on Sunday in the FA Cup.

Rodrigo Bentancur arrived at Tottenham Hotspur in January 2022 from Juventus. The player rose through the ranks at Boca Juniors, before making the move to Juventus in 2017.

Following an impressive run with the Bianconeri, Spurs signed him on a reported £21.5m deal. The Uruguayan has been an integral part of the first team since his arrival, registering nine goals and eight assists from 89 games across competitions.

He has appeared 20 times across competitions this season, 15 of which have been starts, registering two goals and one assist. The player also suffered a head injury earlier this season, in Tottenham's season opener against Leicester City in August.

With games coming in thick and fast, his absence will be a big blow for manager Ange Postecoglou. Spurs are currently 12th in the Premier League table, 13 points behind Chelsea in fourth. They have won seven and lost ten of their games in the league so far.
