Trent Alexander-Arnold's former school teacher has predicted that Netherlands will beat England 2-1 in their UEFA Euro 2024 semi-final contest this Wednesday (July 10).
The Three Lions, who lost on penalties to Italy in the Euro 2020 final, recorded a 5-3 win on penalties over Switzerland in their Euro 2024 quarter-final match. Ronald Koeman's team, on the other hand, triumphed 2-1 over Turkey in their last-eight tie earlier this month.
Ahead of England's crucial match against Netherlands, one of Alexander-Arnold's former teachers was queried to predict the result of the contest. He replied to This Morning (h/t @AnfieldSector):
"They're going to get beat 2-1. [Cody] Gakpo and [Virgil] Van Dijk are going to score and Trent is going to score a goal for [his side]."
Alexander-Arnold, who is Liverpool's vice-captain, has made four appearances for England at the Euro 2024. He scored the winning penalty in his team's win against Switzerland after coming on in extra-time.
Meanwhile, Liverpool pair Virgil van Dijk and Cody Gakpo are both relishing stellar campaigns in Germany. Both players have started all five of Netherlands' matches, with the forward scoring three times so far.
Ian Wright says England boss has decision to make ahead of upcoming Euro 2024 tie
Arsenal legend Ian Wright has suggested that England manager Gareth Southgate should think about dropping Harry Kane in their upcoming contest. He told Stick to Football: The Overlap Special (h/t Metro):
"When you look at the way that Harry Kane has played in the tournament up until this point, you can't not watch him and say there's something not right with him. He's not sharp, he's not in the box and now we know Ivan Toney can go to that level and take a penalty [in a shootout]. We need somebody who is going to be up there, linking and holding and causing problems for their defenders."
Revealing his doubts about the 30-year-old's form, Wright concluded:
"At some stage, we're going to need to make that decision about what's going on – we can't just wait for that Harry Kane finish. At some stage, we might run out of time in that respect."
Kane, who moved to Bayern Munich from Tottenham Hotspur last year, has started all five of England's contests at the Euro 2024. He has scored two goals so far and received flak for his latest lazy performance.
Ivan Toney, on the other hand, has contributed an assist in two games at the Euro 2024, proving to be an excellent impact substitute so far.
