Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has insisted that his side will be prepared to produce a sensational performance in their Premier League encounter against Liverpool on Sunday (October 27).

After losing 2-0 to Bournemouth in a league clash earlier on Saturday, the Gunners bounced back to winning ways this Tuesday. They defeated Shakhtar Donetsk 1-0 in a UEFA Champions League tie at Emirates Stadium with Dmytro Riznyk scoring an own goal in the first half.

After the end of the continental contest, Arteta was asked to shed light on Arsenal's preparation for the upcoming clash against the Premier League leaders. He replied (h/t X/@FabrizioRomano):

"Believe me... on Sunday, we will be flying. Trust me on that."

The Gunners, who achieved back-to-back runners-up finishes in the last two terms with 89 points and 84 points, are currently third in the league table. They are on 17 points from eight matches, while Liverpool are atop with 21 points and Manchester City are on 20 points.

Since the start of the 2022-23 term, Arteta's outfit boast a fine head-to-head record against Liverpool. They have registered two wins and just one loss in their last five overall games against the Anfield side.

Mikel Arteta states Arsenal stars were tired ahead of league contest against Liverpool

Speaking at a post-match press conference, Mikel Arteta asserted that his players looked fatigued in their recent contest against Shakhtar Donetsk. He said (h/t The Standard):

"Two very different halves. The first one, we were very dominant and created four big, big chances. We should have put the game to bed with the amount of dominance and territory that we had. We looked tired. We lacked that sharpness with and without the ball to regain the ball in the right moments and areas and gave certain balls away. We had chances again and missed a big penalty."

Arteta, who guided Arsenal to eight wins this season, continued:

"That emotion [of missing the penalty] was difficult to overcome and then we had to dig in. But credit to [Shakhtar Donetsk]. They are a big side and the moment you give them space and you hand them chances in transition they look a real threat. But overall it's Champions League, get the win, clean sheet. Let's move on."

Arsenal relished 56% possession, recorded 13 shots, and created 1.98 xG in their Champions League encounter against the Ukrainian outfit.

The Gunners will miss William Saliba due to suspension and Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Riccardo Calafiori, and Jurrien Timber owing to respective injuries this Sunday.
