Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk and goalkeeper Alisson Becker have reacted to the reported arrival of Arne Slot as Jurgen Klopp's successor. Klopp has left Anfield after his final game in charge on Sunday (May 19).
The Reds marked the occasion with a 2-0 home win over Wolverhampton Wanderers. Alexis Mac Allister and Jarell Amorin Quansah scored first-half goals to ensure that Klopp ended his nine-year Anfield stint with a win.
Although the club haven't announced yet, Feyenoord boss Arne Slot is widely expected to take over as the next Reds boss. Ahead of Slot's reported arrival, Van Dijk was seen in pictures with his compatriot in the mixed zone at Anfield. Van Dijk said:
"He came on. We won the game, and I kept a clean sheet against him!"
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Alisson said about the new reported Reds boss:
"We don't know too much about him (Slot), but I'm sure he'll work a lot to put his team, his mentality."
The Reds ended the season in third place, finishing nine points behind champions Manchester City, who became the first team to do a Premier League four-peat.
Andy Robertson showers praise on outgoing Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp managed his side in 471 games across competitions, delivering 299 wins and every title the side competed in, except the UEFA Europa League.
Left-back Andy Robertson, a key part of Klopp's success at Anfield, waxed lyrical of the outgoing boss (as per the club's website):
"He deserves everything he gets. Everyone loves him here, you can tell that. I think we could have sold the stadium out maybe 10 or 20 times over, but that’s what he’s created here. From the minute he came through the door, we’ve been on a special journey.”
About Klopp's last game in charge of the club, Robertson added:
“We got the win. (We) could have scored a couple more goals, but it is what it is, and now he gets the send-off he deserves.”
The Reds won the EFL Cup in Klopp's final season in charge despite briefly being in contention for an unprecedented quadruple.
