Fans have theorised that Liverpool defencer Trent Alexander-Arnold alluded to his Real Madrid transfer links on Sunday (December 29) against West Ham United. The Reds thrashed the Hammers 5-0, marking their 14th league win of the season.
Alexander-Arnold was one of the best players for Arne Slot's side against the Hammers. The Englishman was lethal on the right flank in both attack and defense. He was especially efficient in delivering crosses into the box for the likes of Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz in attack.
Alexander-Arnold also scored in the 54th minute to make it 4-0 for the Merseysiders. After the goal, he made a signal toward fans that resembled a shushing gesture. Many construed the celebration as the player trying to shut down rumours linking him to a move to Real Madrid in 2025.
Many waxed lyrical about the Englishman for his performance and celebration. One fan opined that Alexander-Arnold will become a Liverpool legend in the future:
"He wants to finish as a LFC legend"
"Trent shutting down the Spanish rumours," commented another.
"Love that from Trent," a netizen chimed in.
One fan quipped about Alexnader-Arnold's gesture, saying:
"Trent Alexander-Arnold seemingly sending a message to @marca"
"He’s sending a message to your bum fan base slandering him," added another.
"Y’all catch the “media is yapping” Trent Celebration?" opined one individual on X.
The win at the London Stadium took the Reds eight points clear of second-placed Nottingham Forest with a game to spare.
