A fan jumped from the stands and almost landed on Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo at EURO 2024

A fan jumped from the stands and almost landed on Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo in his side's 2-0 defeat to Georgia at Euro 2024. The incident is the latest in a series of potentially dangerous fan interactions at the continental tournament involving the Al Nassr superstar.

Portugal, who had already qualified for the knockouts as group toppers before their match against competition debutants Georgia, were expected to cruise through the game despite rotating their side heavily.

However, goals from Napoli star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (2') and Metz forward Georges Mikautadze (57', penalty) helped Willy Sagnol's side qualify for the Round of 16 themselves.

In Portugal's 3-0 win over Turkey, six fans managed to invade the field of play to get pictures with the five-time Ballon d'Or winner. While he patiently obliged for the first few fans, the Real Madrid legend was left visibly agitated and annoyed as more and more people tried getting close to him.

UEFA's promise to improve security for players after an increase in the number of pitch invasions, especially in games involving Ronaldo. After the referee blew the full-time whistle against Georgia, the 39-year-old fan was escorted off the pitch and into the tunnel by a group of stewards.

Despite the added security, a fan tried his luck, jumping onto the stairs from above the tunnel. A steward deflected the landing just in front of Ronaldo, and the fan was quickly taken away from the scene.

The Portuguese talisman was left confused and irritated by the incident, putting his hands up in a questioning manner. Thankfully, he did not sustain any injuries from the incident.

"Best day of my life" - Georgia star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia talks about receiving Cristiano Ronaldo's jersey and helping his side qualify for Round of 16

Despite multiple pitch invaders' desperate attempts, perhaps the biggest Cristiano Ronaldo fan at EURO 2024 is Georgia star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. He played a crucial role in marshaling his side to a 2-0 victory and qualification to the Round of 16 but fulfilled another childhood dream in the process.

After the final whistle, the forward immediately rushed to the Portuguese maestro, whom he has publicly claimed to be one of his idols growing up. The pair shared a hug and a chat before the Euro 2016 winner gave the 23-year-old his jersey as appreciation for his man-of-the-match performance.

Before the game, Kvaratskhelia had claimed that playing against Ronaldo and getting his shirt would be a 'dream come true'. In the post-match press conference, he stated (via @TimelineCR7 on X):

"I won the Cristiano Ronaldo shirt and we qualified for the round of 16. It is the best day of my life. We are very happy. We made history."

While Georgia will take on Spain at the RheinEnergieStadion in Koln (Sunday, June 30), Portugal will play Slovenia at the Deutsche Bank Park in Frankfurt (Monday, July 1) in the Round of 16 of Euro 2024.
