"We always look at the market" – Liverpool boss Arne Slot speaks up on Reds' transfer plan in January window

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has hinted that his club are currently scouring the market for new potential signings in the ongoing January transfer window.

After finishing third in the Premier League table and lifting the EFL Cup trophy last season, the Reds did not break the bank past summer. They roped in Giorgi Mamardashvili and Federico Chiesa for a joint potential sum of just £41.5 million after failing to sign Martin Zubimendi from La Liga side Real Sociedad.

With his team still competing for all four available trophies this campaign, Slot was queried if Liverpool's recruitment team are busy now. The Dutchman responded (h/t Liverpool Echo):

"It would be a bit weird if I told you something different than we are happy with the team. But we always look at the market. If there's a chance, this club always brings something in. Joe Gomez's [hamstring] injury means we go from four centre-backs to three. I'm very happy with the team and that is trust from the club."

The Reds were reportedly keen to sign a new defensive midfielder ahead of this season. They could decide to reignite their interest in Zubimendi as a result. They have also allegedly been linked with a few left-backs, like Fulham's Antonee Robinson and Bournemouth's Milos Kerkez, over the past few weeks.

Arne Slot previews Liverpool's upcoming clash

At a pre-match press conference, Arne Slot claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are a good side ahead of their EFL Cup semi-final first leg tie this Thursday (January 9). He said (h/t Liverpool Echo):

"What we expect is two teams with a clear identity. That's what most people expect to see... both teams trying to force it on the other. Large parts of the game two weeks ago, we could show our identity. But, they showed how good of a team they are."

When asked about potential starters for the cup clash, Slot responded:

"I said there are many considerations you make before you make a line-up. We might play a few players that haven't played all the games and a few players that have played all the games. Today is the first time we train since Manchester United. Let's see."

The Reds could be without two senior stars in their upcoming cup match, namely Joe Gomez and Dominik Szoboszlai owing to respective injuries.

Liverpool have lost just once in their last 15 total games against Spurs.
