Andres Iniesta rarely got angry on the pitch but the Barcelona legend hit out at Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo once. In 2009, the Spaniard was spotted having a go at the then-new Galactico and clashing heads with him.
Speaking to Cuatro about the incident after announcing his retirement earlier this year, Iniesta revealed that he was not happy with the Real Madrid star and said:
"We were in my house, we were at the Camp Nou, and I just told him that he don't do things like that."
The legendary midfielder was also asked about the reports that he supported Real Madrid and was close to joining them before moving to La Masia. He dismissed the suggestions and said:
"It happened because Barcelona scored seven goals against Albacete and I got so angry and threw such a tantrum. I was unhappy that Barcelona had done that to my Albacete... so I had a difficult time which included a change of team. There has never been any contact though, I was never close to signing for Madrid."
Iniesta played 674 matches for Barcelona in his career and scored 57 times while assisting 135 goals for the club. He faced Cristiano Ronaldo in 36 matches and ended up winning 16 of those games while losing 10 and drawing as many.
Andres Iniesta hit back at Cristiano Ronaldo's comments
Andres Iniesta was not happy with Cristiano Ronaldo's comments after the Portuguese won his fifth Ballon d'Or. The former Real Madrid star said in 2017 that there were no footballers better than him and said (via GiveMeSport):
"I've never seen anyone better than me. I have always thought that. No footballer can do the things I can. There's no player more complete than me. I play well with both feet, I'm quick, powerful, good with the head, I score goals, I make assists. There are guys who prefer Neymar or Messi. But I tell you: there's no one more complete than me."
Iniesta had a reply for the Portuguese star and said:
"I don't know if they were exactly his [Ronaldo's] words. Each person is free to their own opinions and feelings. A player at his level, with five Ballon d'Ors… obviously he is among the best. From there, we all have are own preferences. Mine is clear. I'd go with my teammate, with Leo, for all that he's represented and still represents. But everyone has their own tastes."
Andres Iniesta announced his retirement earlier this year, but Cristiano Ronaldo is still going strong. The Portuguese star has recently hinted that he is close to calling it time on his career but is still aiming for the 1000-goal mark.
