Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has revealed that the club understands the reason behind their recent struggles. The Cityzens have suffered three defeats in a row across competitions for the first time since April 2018. They lost against Tottenham Hotspur in the EFL Cup, Bournemouth in the Premier League and Sporting CP in the UEFA Champions League.

In a recent press conference, Guardiola spoke about Manchester City's recent form and said (via SuperSport):

"We know the reason why we struggle but we are looking forward to this game and after the international break, and after that a few players will be back and recovered. All the little problems we have with players will be solved. I hope."

Guardiola made this revelation ahead of Manchester City's Premier League clash against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday, November 9.

Rodri's injury has arguably affected the defensive side of the midfield. While Kevin De Bruyne's absence has affected the creative aspect of the attack. However, the Belgian is back in action as he could return to the starting XI this weekend.

Manchester City are currently ranked second in the Premier League standings, having registered 23 points from 10 games. They are two points behind league leaders Liverpool. Meanwhile, Brighton have secured 16 points from 10 league games and are ranked eighth in the standings.

The current Premier League titleholders will be looking to bounce back, as a defeat against Brighton could further reduce their title hopes.

Manchester City are interested in signing Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen, according to a report by TEAMtalk. His transfer fee would reportedly be in the region of £90 million, with Bayern Munich and Liverpool also interested in signing him. Wirtz could also be seen a long-term replacement for Kevin De Bruyne, whose current contract would expire in June 2025.

As an attacking midfielder, Wirtz could score goals, and he could also create chances for other attackers. Hence, his presence might be beneficial for Erling Haaland if he's signed. He's recorded 48 goals and 51 assists in 168 games for Bayer Leverkusen.

Wirtz has had a decent start to the ongoing 2024-25 campaign. He has scored seven goals and registered one assist in 17 games for the Bundesliga titleholders. The 21-year-old is currently contracted at Bayer Leverkusen until June 2027 and is unlikely to be available for a low price.
