Three Real Madrid stars have provided an update on Kylian Mbappe's recent injury. The French superstar opened the scoring in the 3-2 win over Atalanta in the Champions League on Tuesday, December 10.
However, he appeared to pick up a muscle injury later in the first half and was replaced by Rodrygo Goes before the break. Carlo Ancelotti has already claimed that the forward's injury isn't serious, insisting it is a muscle overload.
Speaking recently, as cited by Madrid Xtra, Thibaut Courtois added that Kylian Mbappe might miss Real Madrid's LaLiga game against Rayo Vallecano on Saturday, December 14.
“Mbappé felt the muscle contracting. It doesn’t seem serious. We might lose him this weekend,” said Courtois.
Brahim Diaz was on the pitch when the Frenchman picked up the knock and had to be replaced. The Moroccan international remained hopeful that the injury wasn't serious.
“Mbappé's injury? I gave him a hug. I hope it's nothing and just a knock,” said Diaz.
Dani Carvajal, currently nursing an ACL injury, also remained confident that the 25-year-old knock isn't serious. The Spaniard was also quick to praise Kylian Mbappe for scoring goals for Los Blancos.
"Kylian Mbappé? It doesn't seem serious [the injury]. He is training very well, he has already scored a lot of goals despite the criticism," said Carvajal.
The Frenchman has registered 12 goals and two assists from 22 games across competitions for Real Madrid this season.
How much does Kylian Mbappe earn at Real Madrid?
Kylian Mbappe joined Real Madrid this summer on a Bosman move after his contract with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) expired. The Frenchman has signed a five-year deal with Los Blancos, that keeps him at the club until 2029.
According to journalist Ramon Alvarez de Mon, the France international will earn $36 million per year gross at the Santiago Bernabeu, which includes his wages and signing bonus. Mbappe has reportedly been handed a $150m signing bonus, which will be paid over five years.
The Frenchman has endured a mixed start to his Real Madrid tenure. He lifted the UEFA Super Cup in his first game with the LaLiga champions, even scoring his first goal.
Unfortunately, he has struggled in the centre-forward position under Carlo Ancelotti. With Vinicius Junior the preferred choice in the left-forward role, Mbappe has had to rediscover his game this season at the Santiago Bernabeu.
