Barcelona's Lamine Yamal recently backed veteran teammate Robert Lewandowski to finish as the top scorer in LaLiga this season over Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr. Lewandowski has previously won the Pichichi award for being the highest goalscorer in La Liga in the 2022-23 season.
In nine appearances in the La Liga this term, Robert Lewandowski has recorded 10 goals and two assists, of which only one was a penalty. In comparison, Kylian Mbappe found the net five times in the league so far with three penalty kicks while Vini Jr has four goals to his name including two penalties.
The Polish striker has been in sensational form so far, leading the race to win his second Pichichi award.
In an interview with RNE, Lewandowski's teammate Lamine Yamal appreciated the striker's impressive numbers, backing him to win the Pichichi this season. He said (via Fabrizio Romano):
"Everything you give Lewandowski, he scores. We're very happy for him. Hopefully, he ends up as the top scorer."
Yamal himself has also been incredible for Barcelona this season, with five goals and five assists for the club in 11 appearances across competitions. The youngster's remarkable playstyle and immaculate ball control have led pundits and fans to compare him to former Blaugrana legends, including Lionel Messi and Neymar Jr.
"We're happy with Flick's style" - Barcelona star Lamine Yamal shares his experience playing under Hansi Flick
Speaking to RNE, Lamine Yamal went on to speak about how things have worked out at Barcelona under new coach Hansi Flick. The German manager took over the helm at the club after former coach Xavi's departure at the end of last season.
Yamal said (via Fabrizio Romano):
"We're enjoying ourselves a lot this season. We're happy with Flick's style. The football is demanding, but in the end, when you press and win the ball back, you control the game. Flick is very close with everyone, whether they play more or less, veterans too."
Lamine Yamal also addressed reports of him being angry with Hansi Flick after the coach took him off the pitch in the 67th minute in Barcelona's 3-0 win over Alaves in La Liga. The teenager has been frequently playing the full 90 minutes in the club's fixtures this season.
After he was subbed off for Ansu Fati, Lamine Yamal was spotted in visible distress for being taken off. However, he explained the situation in the interview, saying:
“I was not happy with my match vs Alaves… I could’ve played better. I demand a lot from myself. The anger was more to do with how I played rather than the substitution. It was with myself. I told Flick that I’m angry because of myself."
After the international break, Barcelona will face Sevilla in La Liga on October 20 before clashing with Bayern Munich in the league phase of the UEFA Champions League on October 23.
