Manchester United legend Roy Keane has given his assessment of the Red Devils' first game under new head coach Ruben Amorim. The former Sporting manager arrived at Old Trafford as the new head coach on November 11.

Manchester United took to the pitch for the first time under him against Ipswich Town on Sunday, November 24, at Portman Road in the Premier League. As expected, the Red Devils were deployed in Amorim's 3-4-3 formation.

The Premier League giants enjoyed a blistering start to the game, with Marcus Rashford putting them ahead in the second minute. However, the visitors got back into the tie through Omari Hutchinson and ultimately secured a point.

Speaking after the game, Keane insisted that his former team displayed a lack of quality in the second half.

"We saw the shape of the team but it is the same players and the same problems. We talk about leopards and spots. Lack of goals and a lack of quality in the second half. Ipswich looked the better team. It's his first game. A lot to take in and it has been a mental week for him [Amorim] but ultimately he will be disappointed," said Keane via Mirror.

Manchester United next face Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League at Old Trafford on Thursday, November 28.

Manchester United will return to action in the Premier League on Sunday, December 1, against Everton at Old Trafford. The Red Devils are 12th in the league table after 12 games this season and are already 15 points behind leaders Liverpool.

Manchester United have won four and lost as many in the league so far, scoring just 13 goals and conceding 13. Amorim had an enviable record with Sporting, having helped them win the league twice in four seasons.

However, he has a tougher job at hand at Old Trafford, which will be compounded by the number of injuries in the squad. Luke Shaw made his much-anticipated return against Ipswich after the break, registering his first appearance of the season. Meanwhile, Tyrell Malacia was on the bench.

The Portuguese manager will also be hoping to call upon Leny Yoro in the coming days. The French defender arrived at Old Trafford from Lille this summer with a huge reputation.

However, a foot injury picked up in pre-season has kept him out of action so far. The 18-year-old has recently returned to first-team training and could make his debut soon.
