Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola feels that the Sky Blues cannot win the Premier League this season. The Spanish tactician's statements came after Man City's 2-0 win over Leicester City in the league on Sunday, December 29.
Manchester City have experienced a significant drop in form this season. In their last 14 games across competitions, they have won only twice, including tonight's match. Guardiola's side, who've dominated the Premier League by winning six league titles in the last seven years, are currently fifth in the table. They have acquired 31 points off 19 games.
Despite Manchester City returning to winning ways tonight, it will be difficult for them to win the Premier League this season.
Speaking on BBC Match of the Day after tonight's win, coach Pep Guardiola weighed in on their situation and stated (via GOAL):
"We can not sustain for 90 minutes, today we proved that again. Commitment and physicality. Clear our minds now by getting results. We are far away from winning the Premier League. We accept there's already no chance of that but we have other things to fight for. FA Cup, top four and winning games helps."
Guardiola's men will next face West Ham United in the Premier League on January 5 after the New Year's break.
"That game killed us" - Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola recalls 2-1 loss against Manchester United as a 'struggle'
In his aforementioned conversation on BBC Match of the Day, Pep Guardiola recalled Manchester City's 2-1 loss to Manchester United in the Premier League as a struggle.
The Catalan coach said (via GOAL):
"The game against Manchester United hurt us a lot in terms of confidence. That game killed us. That game was mentally a struggle then tough games against Aston Villa and Everton. It is what it is, we have to hunt for wins and that's life. Most of the players proved again they are ready to fight."
The Manchester derby on December 15 was a nail biter as the Red Devils made a dramatic comeback to overcome a 1-0 deficit in the final moments of the game. Josko Gvardiol gave the Sky Blues an early lead after scoring in the 36th minute.
However, despite maintaining a 1-0 lead until the final moments, Bruno Fernandes scored from the penalty spot (88') to equalize. Two minutes later, Amad Diallo found the back of the net once again (90') to complete the comeback.
