Former Premier League defender-turned-pundit William Gallas believes Cristiano Ronaldo could end up signing for League 1 outfit Wrexham. The Portuguese superstar is one of the most recognizable faces on the planet and had a long and storied career in England.
Ronaldo came to global prominence at Manchester United before moving on to Real Madrid where he had a legendary run that saw him bag 451 goals. Now the most prolific goalscorer in the history of the sport with over 900 professional goals to his name.
Gallas believes the now 39-year-old could make a move down to the third tier of English football, telling Prime Casino:
"Anything is possible in football in the modern game, it wouldn’t surprise me because money talks and we’ve seen that nothing is impossible these days, You see young players going to Saudi Arabia when they would’ve have ever left Europe in the past."
The French defender continued:
"Footballers and football clubs are now obsessed with their brands too and their sponsors, you can make a lot of money and not just from your wages at your club. Now everything is about social media and having millions of followers, both Wrexham and Cristiano Ronaldo have huge profiles so why not."
"Cristiano Ronaldo is more than just a footballer, he’s a product and he’s also still scoring so many goals on the pitch, there will be so many clubs still happy to have him."
League One outfit Wrexham, owned by Hollywood duo Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, has shot up the football pyramid and now sit in the third tier of English football after back-to-back promotions.
The Welsh club is the subject of a successful TV show and could offer the legendary striker a blockbuster return to the English game when his current deal with Al-Nassr expires next summer.
"He invests in himself" - Former Wrexham keeper hails Cristiano Ronaldo
Former Wrexham goalkeeper Ben Foster has hailed Cristiano Ronaldo for the effort he puts into taking care of himself behind the scenes. The Portuguese icon continues to play professionally despite being 39.
Foster played alongside Ronaldo at Manchester United and the pair took to the pitch together on seven occasions. The Englishman hailed Ronaldo in an interview with the United Stand, saying:
"He invests in himself as his own business and makes sure he has got everything boxed off. So it’s all looked after. So he very rarely will pick up an injury, because of that exact fact."
Ronaldo is currently in his final season with Saudi Pro-League side Al-Nassr, with his contract with the club set to expire in the summer of 2025. He has played 73 games for the Saudi Pro League outfit, bagging 66 goals and 18 assists.
