Barcelona fans have taken to social media to react to the club's announcement that Spanish defender Marcos Alonso will leave the club upon the expiration of his contract on June 30. Alonso joined Barca as a free agent after leaving Chelsea in 2022 and made 45 appearances for La Blaugrana, scoring three goals.

Alonso was an important contributor for Barcelona in the 2022-23 season, making 37 appearances across competitions. He made 24 appearances in their title-winning La Liga campaign and scored one goal. However, his game-time in 2023-24 was limited due to injuries and manager Xavi's selection choices. He made only eight appearances across competitions.

A statement on Barcelona's website announcing Alonso's departure read:

"FC Barcelona would like to place on record their appreciation for his (Marcos Alonso's) commitment and dedication, and wish him all the best and every success in the future."

Ecstatic Barcelona fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to share their joy at Alonso's departure, with one posting:

"I got my joy back."

Another Barca fan wrote:

"Best news so far, next in line ; Roberto."

A fan posted:

"First good news for us."

It'll be interesting to see which club Alonso joins next. The 33-year-old has an impressive resume, having won the Champions League, the Premier League, and La Liga in his career.

American defender joins Eredivisie champions on four-year deal

Sergino Dest has completed a move to Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven on a free transfer this summer. The 23-year-old American joins after an impressive loan spell with the club that saw him bag two goals and seven assists in 37 appearances.

Dest has permanently returned to Dutch football after leaving Ajax to join the Catalan giants in 2020. He played 72 games for La Blaugrana, scoring three goals and providing four assists.

"PSV believe in me and I feel greatly appreciated here, I'm really looking forward to playing again, being important and winning titles," Dest said.

The American never really broke into Barcelona's first-team and spent the 2022-23 season on loan at AC Milan, where he made only 14 appearances and failed to provide a goal contribution. Although Barca haven't received a transfer fee from PSV, they have retained a sell-on clause in his contract.
