Manchester United fans have expressed their surprise on X after Ruben Amorim left Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford out of the squad to face Manchester City. The two teams will clash in the Premier League at the Etihad on Sunday, December 15, in the Manchester derby.

Amorim has named Andre Onana in goal despite his shaky performances in recent weeks. Noussair Mazraoui, Matthijs de Ligt, Harry Maguire, Diogo Dalot, and Lisandro Martinez are the defenders. Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte form the midfield pivot.

Rasmus Hojlund has been handed a start following his brace against Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League on Thursday. Amad Diallo and Mason Mount are expected to operate as the two 10's behind Hojlund.

Surprisingly, Garnacho and Rashford aren't even on the United bench as they have been omitted from the matchday squad entirely.

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim sends warning to his players ahead of Manchester derby

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has warned his players to be wary of Manchester City despite their poor form. Pep Guardiola's men have won just one of their last 10 games across competitions.

Speaking about his opponents ahead of his first Manchester derby, Amorim said (via 90 Mins):

"The great teams can respond at any moment. And I think they are in a better place than us in the type of understanding the game, the way they play, the confidence they have."

Amorim continued:

"Even in these kind of moments, we have a lot to focus on our team. So our focus is total of course, we will have a strategy: try to win the game with the strategy like it should be. But we are focused just on our team."

"We will face a great opponent and I'm more focused on our problems. So we have a lot of issues here, so I'm more focused on what we should do on Sunday to win the game. So I'm really focused on my team," the Portuguese tactician added.

Manchester United are 13th in the standings with 19 points from 15 games, while Manchester City are in the fifth position with 27 points.
