Fans were unimpressed with Frenkie de Jong's performance in Barcelona's 2-2 La Liga draw with Real Betis on Saturday, November 7, at the Estadio Benito Villamarín.

Barc opened their scoring with Robert Lewandowski's left-footed shot from close range, thanks to an assist by Jules Kounde, in the 39th minute. De Jong came off the bench, replacing Dani Olmo in the 60th minute, but conceded a penalty after a foul on Betis' Vitor Roque eight minutes later.

Giovani Lo Celso converted the penalty, scoring Betis' equaliser. Ferran Torres restored the Blaugrana's lead after being set up by Lamine Yamal in the 82nd minute. Assane Diao, assisted by Aitor Ruibal with a cross, though restored parity in the fourth minute of stoppage time.

De Jong received his first booking after committing the foul on Roque in the box. The 27-year-old was on the pitch for 40 minutes, during which he had 20 touches and one key pass.

Fans were dissappointed with De Jong's display in the game. Here are some of the reactions on X, with one writing:

"OMG De Jong what a horrendous player. Gavi what a absolute dogshit display."

Another added:

"I repeat send De Jong away immediately"
"Someone help me understand What does Frankie De Jong adds to this Barcelona squad?," chimed in another fan.

One account posted:

"Frenkie de Jong: highest-paid player at Barça, but his impact on the pitch is invisible All that cash for sideways passes and vibes"

Another tweeted:

"De Jong out"
"Release frenkie, he’s garbage," posted another.

One user wrote:

"Don’t want to use De Jong as a scapegoat he really doesn’t help himself"

Another wrote:

"Frenkie de Jong was our downfall. Bro has had 2 good moments all season and countless bad moments. He needs to stop getting minutes"

Frenkie de Jong has registered one goal and one assist in 12 appearances across competitions for Barcelona this season.

"It wasn't a good game" - Barcelona boss Hansi Flick

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick was disappointed with the team's performance in the stalemate at Betis as they dropped points after twice taking the lead (via GOAL):

"We played very badly from the start. It wasn't a good game. We're a young team and we need to improve a lot. We need to be stronger, especially when we play away.
"We have quality, but we have to show it in every game. We were slow with our passes, with a lot of long balls... it's not what we want or our strength. We have to focus on our strengths and on what we have to do."

Flick's side had 62% possession against Betis, having three shots on target. The former Bayern Munich manager was shown a red card for an apparent dissent after Los Verdiblancos were awarded the penalty for De Jong's foul.
