Real Madrid are reportedly set to hand Endrick the No.16 shirt when he officially arrives at the Santiago Bernabeu. The Brazilian wonderkid is joining the La Liga giants from Palmeiras in a €47.5 million deal.
The Athletic's reputed Spanish journalist Mario Cortegana claims the 17-year-old Selecao starlet will be given the No.16. This is the number the teenage center-forward first wore when breaking onto the scene at Palmeiras.
Endrick's preferred jersey number is No.9, which he wore for the Brazilian outfit. However, he's unable to choose that number at Real Madrid as fellow summer signing Kylian Mbappe is set to be handed it.
The six-cap Brazil international is one of the most exciting talents in world football. He posted 21 goals and four assists in 82 games across competitions for Palmeiras.
Endrick does join several legendary names that have once worn the No.16 at the Bernabeu. Emilio Butragueno, Casemiro, and Fernando Hierro are three Los Blancos icons who donned the jersey.
"We have to win" - Real Madrid new boy Endrick urged Brazil to reign supreme at Copa America 2024
Endrick is participating at Copa America before arriving at Real Madrid later this summer. He is set to make his first major international appearance when Dorival Junior's men face Costa Rica in Group D on Tuesday (June 25).
The teenage striker touched on the tournament in the United States and how Brazil are eager to win it. He told The Daily Mail:
"I see Copa America as a competition that we have to win. It has its own value, and it is not a preparation tournament. I really enjoy how Americans enjoy and promote their games. It will be great to play here."
Selecao have struggled to impress recently and were knocked out of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in the quarterfinals. They suffered a 4-2 loss on penalties to Croatia after a 1-1 draw over 120 minutes.
Endrick didn't play in that tournament and didn't appear during their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign until late 2023. He made his international debut in a 2-1 loss to Colombia (November 17), coming off the bench for an eight-minute cameo.
The former Palmeiras starlet scored his first goal for Brazil in a 1-0 win against England at Wembley (March 23). The incoming Real Madrid attacker is set to spearhead Selecao's attack amid a new generation emerging.
