Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has heaped praise on Amad Diallo following their Premier League clash against Manchester City. The Manchester derby ended in a 2-1 win for the Red Devils on Sunday, December 15, at Etihad Stadium.
Josko Gvardiol opened the scoring for Manchester City with a header following a corner in the 36th minute. The Cityzens seemed to be cruising towards a comfortable win for most of the second half before Matheus Nunes committed a foul on Amad Diallo inside the hosts' penalty area. Bruno Fernandes converted the spot-kick in the 88th minute.
Amad Diallo then netted the winner for Manchester United with a left-footed shot from a difficult angle from an assist by Lisandro Martínez in the 90th minute.
Following the win at the Etihad, Bruno Fernandes hailed the Ivorian winger's display, expressing confidence that the 22-year-old can pull off more such performances. Fernandes told Sky Sports (via @UtdDistrict on X):
"When he is like this he is unstoppable. I just want him to keep working, that is what he has been doing. It is great what he did today but I am sure he can do this every week. We want this week in, week out. He is now getting his chances, deservedly."
Along with scoring the penalty against Manchester City, Bruno Fernandes had 65 touches, three key passes, and one shot on target while maintaining a passing accuracy of 86%. The 30-year-old has registered six goals and 10 assists in 24 appearances across competitions for Manchester United this season.
"We were angry and we are happy to win the game" - Amad Diallo after scoring the winner for Manchester United against Manchester City
Amad Diallo shared his thoughts on scoring the winning goal for Manchester United against City. The Atalanta graduate, who was named the Man of the Match, stated that the Red Devils were "angry" in the match and wanted to get a result.
In his interview with MUTV, Amad Diallo said (via the club's official website):
"I’m feeling very good, very nice. Winning against City, a derby like this, away against them who are one of the best teams in the world, you can have only good feeling. I’m so happy. Today, we knew it was not easy, but this is a derby, if you want to win you have to be angrier than them and we showed that. We were angry and we are happy to win the game.”
Speaking about his own contributions to the match, the 22-year-old added:
“I was happy to win the first penalty. I tried to shoot but I was maybe a little bit smart to say the defender was coming, and he touched my legs, [so it was a] penalty. The second one, we know Licha [Lisandro Martinez] is a good player to give you this ball. In the beginning, I didn’t believe in the ball because it was going too quick, but I touched the ball and I score. I was so happy to score against City and so happy to win this game. I want to enjoy this moment today and then let’s focus for the next game.”
Amad Diallo had 57 touches and two shots on target against City while maintaining a pass accuracy of 94%. He has netted four goals and provided six assists in 23 appearances across competitions for Manchester United so far this season.
