Cristiano Ronaldo has responded to MrBeast's claim about Lionel Messi in his latest collaboration video with the most subscribed YouTuber in the world. The Portuguese superstar launched his YouTube channel (UR. Cristiano) back in August and has already amassed over 72 million subscribers in just four months.
The Lionel Messi vs. Cristiano Ronaldo debate has dominated football discourses for over two decades now. Widely considered two of the greatest players to have ever graced the game, Messi and Ronaldo have racked up over 1700 goals combined and had established an unparalleled duopoly over the Ballon d'Or during their primes, winning 13 together.
In the video titled 'How Many Goalkeepers Does It Take to Stop Ronaldo?' Ronaldo collaborated with MrBeast as the latter tried to stop the Al-Nassr superstar's penalties. Each goal scored added an extra goalkeeper.
In the video, MrBeast claimed that his friend Nolan thinks Lionel Messi is the GOAT (Greatest of All Time). This prompted a response from Ronaldo before he burst into laughter. Here is how the conversation went (5:05):
MrBeast (pointing at his friend Nolan): Nolan says he doesn't like you, he thinks you're not the GOAT. Nolan's the guy on the end over there, he thinks Messi's better! He calls it soccer and he said Messi's the GOAT.
Cristiano Ronaldo: Who said Messi's better than me? (He bursts into laughter)
The video has already amassed over four million views and over 350k likes within just 15 hours of being premiered on YouTube.
Cristiano Ronaldo has broken a barrage of records since launching his YouTube channel in August. Within just 24 hours, it amassed over 10 million subscribers, thereby setting up a world record. His first-ever podcast on the channel was with former Manchester United teammate Rio Ferdinand.
When Cristiano Ronaldo spoke about his desire to have dinner with Lionel Messi
Cristiano Ronaldo once got candid about his rivalry with Lionel Messi and expressed his desire to have dinner with the Argentine maestro. The two are the most decorated footballers in football history and have publicly shared their admiration for one another several times in the past.
During the 2019 UEFA Champions League draw, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi were spotted together in the front row alongside Virgil van Dijk. All three of them were nominated for the UEFA Player of the Season award that year, with the Dutch defender eventually claiming it.
During the ceremony, Ronaldo talked about his longtime rivalry with Lionel Messi, claiming that it had never happened in football before. He said (via Daily Mail):
"I was curious because we shared this stage for 15 years me and him. I don't know if that has ever happened in football, the same two guys on the stage at the same time, so it's not easy. Of course we have a good relationship, we have not had dinner together yet but I hope in the future."
Despite reaching the twilight of their respective careers, Messi and Ronaldo continue to dominate football. The two have left Europe and currently play for MLS outfit Inter Miami and Saudi side Al-Nassr, respectively.
