Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount has released an emotional statement following his recent injury setback. The Englishman picked up a muscle issue during the 2-1 victory over Manchester City last weekend.
Mount made the cut as new Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim named his starting line-up for the Manchester derby on Sunday (December 15). However, it ended up being a day to forget for the player.
The midfielder spent less than 15 minutes on the pitch as he hurt his leg and was substituted as a result. Further assessments revealed that he had a muscular problem that would keep him sidelined for several weeks.
Reacting to the setback, the 25-year-old has released an emotional statement that was shared on Fabrizio Romano's X page (formerly known as Twitter).
"Words can’t portray how devastated I’m feeling right now, you could probably see the look on my face when it happened. I knew what it meant," he wrote. “United fans, you may not know me too well yet, but one thing I can guarantee, I will never give up or lose faith. I’ve said this before, but I will continue to give everything, get through this tough period and won’t stop until that’s achieved."
It goes without mentioning that injuries have contributed greatly to Mason Mount's struggles at Manchester United. The midfielder has now missed over 30 games due to injury in just over a year since he joined the Red Devils from Chelsea.
What is next for Manchester United?
After losing 4-2 to Tottenham Hotspur in the EFL Cup on Thursday (December 19), Manchester United will be eager to regain some momentum.
They will return to action in the English top flight this weekend, with a clash with Bournemouth scheduled for tomorrow (Sunday, December 22) at Old Trafford. That will be followed by a face-off with Wolverhampton Wanderers on Boxing Day before they close the year with another clash against Newcastle United on December 30.
That said, it is worth stressing that the Red Devils still have a lot of work to do in the remainder of the season. They currently occupy the 13th position in the table with 22 points in 16 games, having won just six of the fixtures in the Premier League so far.
