Fans lavished praise on midfielder Fede Valverde following his performance in Real Madrid's 3-0 La Liga win at Leganes on Sunday (November 24). The Uruguayan midfielder was one of the scorers in the game.
Coming off a rousing 4-0 La Liga home win over Osasuna just before the international break, Los Blancos continued their winning ways with a dominating performance at the Estadio Municipal de Butarque.
After Kylian Mbappe had broken the deadlock just before half-time, Valverde doubled the visitors' advantage midway through the second period with a sumptuous free-kick. Midfielder Jude Bellingham applied the coup de grace late on Carlo Ancelotti's side moved to within four points of leaders Barcelona with a game in hand.
Fans were particularly effusive in their praise for Valverde, who enjoyed a superb outing, with one tweeting:
"Fede is world-class in every position he plays, once-in-a-generational player"
Another chimed in:
"Fede is leading from the front."
There were similar reactions from other fans, with one posting:
"Fede Valverde is every manager's dream"
Another commented:
"Mbappe wasn't our best player tonight. Capitano Valverde was."
One wrote:
"Been waiting for this day. Valverde es mi capitan (Valverde is my captain)."
Another fan tweeted:
"Valverde is not normal. That guy can play any position to a competent level."
Although attacker Vinicius Junior wasn't on the scoresheet, the Brazilian assisted Mbappe's first-half opener.
What's next for Real Madrid?
Real Madrid have enjoyed a largely solid campaign despite hiccups before the international break. However, Carlo Ancelotti's side bounced back from successive defeats across competitions with a resounding win over Osasuna.
Hoping to win back-to-back league titles for the first time in more than a decade, Los Blancos have capitalised on leaders Barcelona dropping five points in their last two games.
They now turn their attention to the UEFA Champions League, where they travel to leaders Liverpool - the only side this season to win their opening four games - on Wednesday (November 27).
Los Blancos are coming off a surprise 3-1 home defeat to AC Milan in their previous outing in the European competition. They have lost two of their opening four games and are a lowly 18th in the standings ahead of their trip to the runaway Premier League leaders.
Following their continental exertions in midweek, Carlo Ancelotti's side return home to host Getafe in La Liga on December 1.
